JBOD Taps Advanced Networking

JBOD technology (Just a Bunch Of Disks) isn't likely to be left behind in the race to high-speed fabric architectures. The newest systems are tapping into advanced Ethernet and Fibre Channel formats as quickly as more mainstream storage platforms.

Enhance Technology just introduced the UltraStor RS16 JS enterprise-class JBOD system, which the company intends either as an expansion to the UltraStor RS platform or to connect with any host system through an integrated HBA.

The RS16 is a 16-disk, dual-channel SAS system with a MiniSAS expansion port. It can be configured for SAS, quad GbE iSCSI or 4G Fibre Channel networks and features hot-swappable cooling fans and drive trays, as well as a dual-redundant power supply. A single unit provides up to 16 TB of raw storage, although multiple units can be combined for up to 80 TB. Transfer rates are as high as 1.2 GBps using SAS drives.

The initial price is less than $3,000 per unit.
