HP Simplifies 8G Fibre Channel

First-time SAN users now have an easy way to jump right to the forefront of networking technology. Hewlett Packard has begun shipping an 8-Gbps version of the StorageWorks systems, using switches and HBAs from QLogic.

InforStor Magazine says the StorageWorks Simple SAN Connection Kit packages an 8/20q 8-Gbps FC switch, four 81Q FC HBAs designed for PCIe hosts and connection management software, along with all the necessary cables and tranceivers.

The package also provides embedded support for virtual servers, making it possible to support multiple virtual connections on the same physical ports.

QLogic's 8/20q switch offers 20-port connectivity with auto-discovery, auto-negotiating and self-configuration capabilities. It provides a non-blocking architecture using adaptive trunking and multi-switch network configurations up to three hops. It is also backward compatible with 2- and 4-Gbps Fibre Channel networks.
