Hitachi Adds New SANbox

Arthur Cole

Hitachi storage users have a new high-speed router solution that provides both Fibre Channel and Ethernet connectivity to the Adaptable Modular Storage (AMS) and Workgroup Modular Storage (WMS) platforms.

The company recently added the QLogic SANbox 6140 router to the AMS and WMS families as a way to provide mid-level customers with a stronger networking component to facilitate SAN consolidation and other efforts, says CNNMoney.com. The SANbox has the ability to connect all servers to the SAN via Ethernet while turning all Fibre Channel storage devices into multi-protocol devices using iSCSI. It also provides migration pathways from standalone DAS systems to the SAN.

The router supports more than 500 servers and features a wizard-based configuration interface.

Another advantage is that the SANbox can be added in a modular fashion, so the entire storage system does not have to dedicated entirely to either Fibre Channel or iSCSI.
