Fujitsu Taps Emulex IOP

Arthur Cole

Just a quick OEM deal to talk about today. Fujitsu has selected Emulex' IOP 502M processor as the single-chip front- and back-end network connection for the ETERNUS2000 storage system, says CNNMoney.com.

The 502M provides front-end Fibre Channel SAN connectivity, with SAS/SATA interconnection for the backend. It also provides the Intel XScale processor for applications like on-board RAID.

A single-chip solution was crucial for Fujitsu to provide low-cost, high-power embedded storage connectivity to keep the company on par with solutions from IBM, HP and others.

The deal also marks a strengthening relationship between Emulex and Fujitsu, which are already working at integrating Emulex products like the InSpeed and FibreSpy FC switches into Fujitsu products.
