FC Backup over IP Networks

Arthur Cole

Here's an interesting new device from an Israeli company called PacketLight Networks. Their PL-200 allows you to set up an end-to-end Fibre Channel network between branch offices using public IP and Metro Ethernet networks.

The company bills it as a disaster recovery solution, providing FCIP mapping, IPsec encryption and hardware-based compression in a 1U form factor. It also provides a low granularity bandwidth policer that lets you set your own bandwidth requirements, plus a variety of uplink interfaces, such as 100Base-T copper and GbE optical SFP.

Other features include native performance monitoring of FC and GbE connections, as well as all protocol layers of the FCIP, IPsec and TCP/IP networks. Buffer-to-buffer credit flow control allows you to connect data centers over thousands of miles.
