Emulex Pushes LightPulse to 8G

Arthur Cole

Emulex kicked the LightPulse line of host bus adapters (HBAs) to 8 Gbps Fibre Channel this week with the introduction of the LPe 12000 series.

The system combines the broader throughput of the 8 Gbps FC and the PCIe 2.0 standards with tools like end-to-end data protection and advanced CPU offloading to allow enterprises to scale up databases, transaction processing and other business-critical applications for larger workloads.

The device also provides auto-speed negotiation between 2, 4 and 8 Gbps signals to ease installation into legacy networks, as well as optical transceiver diagnostics and non-volatile error-logging.

Movement toward high bandwidth networking is emerging as a crucial next step for enterprises that are currently in the processing of consolidating servers through virtualization.
