Dell Taps Egenera Management

Arthur Cole

Dell has seen the light when it comes to enterprise virtualization: you can't have a robust virtualization platform without a strong management component.

That's why the company is now offering an integrated management stack for the PowerEdge server line in the form of the Egenera PAN System. The two companies have had an OEM relationship for some time, but this is the first time the PAN system is available as a factory integrated turnkey solution.

The PAN system is designed to virtualize and pool datacenter resources like SANs into scalable, changeable assets. The system establishes a processing area network (PAN) to connect and centrally manage the PowerEdge server to allow rapid provisioning and redeployment.

The system simplifies management of physical and virtual resources through a single interface that provides consolidation of both server and I/O resources, automated load balancing, rapid failover and verifiable disaster recovery for multiple datacenters.

The package is available for immediate shipment.
