DataCore Lowers Barrier to SAN Entry

Arthur Cole

Looking for an instant SAN? DataCore might have just the ticket.

The company took the idea of a low-cost, entry-level SAN to new extremes this week with the introduction of a line of "starter packages" that can be had for as little as $2,000.

While the systems are clearly not engineered to compete with full-fledged SAN offerings, the company did manage to add a number of advanced features without breaking the bank. Available features include thin provisioning, data migration, storage caching and even snapshot and remote replication.

The systems can be designed for iSCSI, Fibre Channel or both, with automated failover/failback and fault tolerance included.

Even an entry-level SAN can make a crucial difference in small enterprises' ability to deploy advanced data center technologies, namely virtualization. To that end, the packages are compatible with all of the leading hypervisors: Hyper-V, Citrix, Virtual Iron, Parallels and VMware.
