Automating SAN Migration

Arthur Cole

I thought I'd direct your eyes today to a new SAN migration platform from a young firm called Incipient.

The company has come out with the Automated Data Migration software stack designed to streamline the often messy process of moving data between SANs. That should be particularly interesting to those who are wondering how they were going to get years of institutional data from legacy SANs to new virtual ones.

Some of the tasks that the software takes over include SAN discovery, pre-migration configuration and post-migration cut-over. It also handles many virtualization-specific functions like LUN migration, decommissioning and scaling to handle the really big jobs, like full data center migration.

And those with mixed environments should know that it works across heterogeneous platforms.

Incipient says the ADM system is available now. Pricing is by the terabyte.
