ATTO Links Apple to IBM Virtual SANs

Arthur Cole

Mac users will be pleased to know that there is a way they can take advantage of new storage virtualization systems from IBM.

Apple networking specialist ATTO has added a set of specialized drivers to its Celerity 4 Gbps Fibre Channel adapters that link to IBM's SAN Volume Controller. The drivers -- found on the Celerity FC-41ES, 42ES and 44ES PCIe devices -- provide patch failover and load-balancing capabilities across all ports for the virtual LUNs created by the SVC system. They also provide continuous data protection, improved workflow and more effective storage utilization.

ATTO says the purpose of the new drivers is to provide Apple users with an enterprise-class tiered virtual storage solution that offers high availability, high capacities and simplified management.
