There is software that can help manage your power consumption on the server, storage and network side, and then there is software that can manage your actual power and cooling systems. But rarely do you see the two sides integrated into a single platform.
APC and CA are looking to change that. The two companies have formed a partnership aimed at creating a unified solution both to monitor and assess energy usage and then optimize its distribution.
Under the agreement, APC will bring its assessment and integration services, as well as its physical layer management software, while CA will offer enterprise-level monitoring and management. Among some of the combinations at play are APC's InfraStruXure Central monitoring system with CA's eHealth Network Performance Manager to bring the power draw of non-IT systems to the attention of data center managers.
APC also maintains a Professional Services organization that can assess data center consumption on an individual basis and make recommendations for improvements.
