Another product tie-up to tell you about, this one out of NXTcomm, Chicago's gathering of telecom enthusiasts, although there's usually a smattering of enterprise-related news as well.
This one is a new switch reference design code jointly developed by Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) and Fulcrum Microsystems. It's an SPF+ 10 GbE code that the two companies have named "Lassen."
The design is a combination of four elements: AMCC's QT2035S physical layer IC and the Power Architecture 440 EPx CPU, with Fulcrums FocalPoint FM2224 switch and ControlPoint software. Together, they form a 24-port switch that serves the SR, LR, LRM and ER flavors of 10 GbE, even over twin-axial copper. Speeds can reach 667 MHz with latency as low as 200 ns.
Schematics and layout files are expected to be available by August.
