It looks like this week's enterprise architectural news will be centered around Interop in Las Vegas. There was a plethora of press releases out this morning, all touting new breakthroughs in switching, routing, Ethernet and the like. I'll be digging through them all week to hopefully find common threads and offer some guidance on where the technology seems to be headed.
In the meantime, here is a pretty good show preview from Information Week's Elena Malykhina, who sees a number of trends emerging in areas like branch office connectivity, mobility and next-gen technologies.
With 450 exhibitors, there should be plenty to digest over the next couple of days. Not only is the industry ramping up activity on 10-gig Ethernet solutions and WAN/LAN connectivity, but telecom service providers like Avaya are jumping in with new distributed offerings designed to tighten the connections to branch offices and distributed workforces.
And with keynotes from the CEOs of Nortel, Cisco and Avaya, there's a good chance that by the end of this week, we'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect for the coming year.
