Zimbra Hits the Big Time with Comcast Deal

Zimbra has landed a deal with number-two Internet service provider Comcast that CRN is predicting will launch the Web-based e-mail provider into the mainstream. The company announced yesterday that it is partnering with Comcast and HP Services to build SmartZone, a communications center via which Comcast customers who use all of the company's services (phone, Internet and cable) will be able access e-mail, voicemail and a central address book.

The agreement is "huge" for Zimbra, according to CEO Scott Dietzen, because it will expand the company's reach dramatically. The open source messaging company launched its product to the public last year, according to CRN, and is targeting both business and consumer markets.
