Not only is Ubuntu the operating system of choice for certain Dell desktops and laptops, it will soon have a presence in the mobile market. BBC News reports that Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, is partnering with Intel on the Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded project. The first interation of the platform is slated for release in October.
ZDNet blogger Matthew Miller takes that news and runs with it in a post published Tuesday. He points out that mobile Linux is already quite popular in Asia. Quoting a PCWorld article that taps Symbian, Windows Mobile and Linux as world leaders in the mobile market, Miller says the trend will continue and Linux will take the mobile OS lead in 2008.
