Sun's xVM Ops Center Hits the Streets

Lora Bentley

Sun's announcement of its innotek acquisition and the addition of VirtualBox to its virtualization efforts stirred much discussion last week.

Tuesday the company is expected to begin shipping its xVM Ops Center, which TechWhack describes as:

a data center automation console [that] ...enables automatic installation of firmware and bare-metal operating systems along with scanning and tracking of servers in a network in addition to patch-management tools for SuSE, Red Hat and Solaris.

Analyst James Staten calls the patch-management tools "impressive," but notes that though the product is designed to work with both Linux and Solaris, it might be more geared toward Solaris users in this first iteration.
