Ribbon Cutting: Red Hat Exchange Opens to Public

The online open source marketplace that analysts, bloggers and potential customers have talked about for months is finally here. Red Hat launched Red Hat Exchange today at the Red Hat Summit in San Diego, according to vnunet.com.

Director Matt Mattox says Red Hat is "taking the long view" with Red Hat Exchange -- investing in the "rising tide" of enterprise open source. The exchange offers 14 different open source business apps, including MySQL, Alfresco ECM, SugarCRM and EnterpriseDB.

The applications are sold by subscription and supported by Red Hat, vnunet.com says. Red Hat hopes to increase sales of its own products by allowing the application vendors to tap into the Red Hat name and customer base.
