PCI Compliance for Dummies?

Lora Bentley

No, I'm not kidding. California-based security solution provider Qualys has teamed up with publisher John Wiley and Sons to produce PCI Compliance for Dummies.

Released last week, the free e-book can be downloaded after a brief registration process. It purports to explain the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard and how to comply therewith in plain English, and it's specifically geared toward those of us who aren't particularly immersed in security tech or the law.

If you'll remember, Gabe Fineman from Advanced Solutions International told me not long ago that it helps to have a lawyer close or to be a lawyer when you're reading through the PCI compliance questionnaire. So if your company is contemplating becoming a PCI-compliant merchant, either to sell products or receive contributions, this might be just what you need to explain the process to the business side.

Of course, it may not be smart to send a "for Dummies" book to your colleagues without explaining yourself first.
