Novell Picks up Open Source Team Workspace with SiteScape

Lora Bentley

Boy, when the consolidation bug bites, it apparently bites hard.

Novell is the latest victim, according to bizjournals. The Waltham, Mass.,-based Linux distributor has acquired open source collaboration software provider SiteScape. The acquisition will bring "team workspace and real-time collaboration" capabilities to Novell, the story says.

The deal's price point was not disclosed, and the positions SiteScape employees will assume at Novell are also unclear. Novell representatives did say, however, that "nearly every one" of SiteScape's 45 employees will continue with Novell. SiteScape will also remain in its Maynard, Mass., offices.

The two companies partnered last year to create Novell Teaming + Conferencing, which is a real-time conferencing and team workspace product based on SiteScape's offerings.
