Leopard Build 9A559: A Release Candidate?

Lora Bentley

In case you missed it last week, Apple has released a pre-build version of Leopard. AppleInsider's Prince McLean says the "full-blown build" could be considered a release candidate:

Labeled "Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard build 9A559," the new release came just hours after the Cupertino-based company issued two minor updates to the previous full-sized build (9A527), both of which were aimed at testing the system's automated Software Update mechanism... Friday evening's release ... was issued as a 6.5GB web download to all Apple Developer Connection members, whether they had installed the previous builds or not.

In order to meet an October launch deadline, he says, the company would need to declare a Leopard build "Gold Master" in the next three weeks. Doing so would require correcting the two known problems in the system.

The first issue centers around archive installs from Tiger to Leopard, which have failed on some Power PCs when the user tries to preserve his or her settings. The second is an incompatibility with certain HP printers.
