There's a rumor that Dell and Google are going to unveil a mobile phone based on the Android platform at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. But not many put much stock in it.
In Why the Dell/Google Phone Rumor is False, Computerworld blogger Mike Elgan lists the reasons for his disbelief, the first two of which are: "Google historically doesn't partner with companies on the co-development of hardware, per se," and "If it did, Dell would be the wrong partner."
He notes that the real news probably has something to do with Dell joining the Open Handset Alliance and building its own Android-based phone.
One company that will show off an Android-based phone -- or a prototype, at least -- is British company ARM, according to Guardian Unlimited.
