Asus, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba Join Android Development Efforts

Lora Bentley

Look out -- there's another Android-based phone on the way. Or at least that's what the rumor is...

Back in September, Sony Ericsson President Dick Komiyama said the company was looking at Android but wasn't ready to commit. Now, apparently, the story is a little different. PCWorld.com reported Tuesday that Sony Ericsson has joined the Open Handset Alliance, along with Toshiba and Asus, and has expressed interest in the Android mobile platform.

The story indicates the companies could be ready to launch their own Android-based phones as early as next summer. I first learned that Asus was joining the effort last month, but this is the first I've seen about Toshiba and Android.
