IT Jobs Among CNNMoney's Best in America

Ann All

The good news keeps coming for those working in IT. As IT Business Edge's Suan Hall wrote recently after interviewing folks from Robert Half Technology, Dice.com and JobThread, IT job listings are on the rise.

And IT jobs scored well on CNNMoney's list of 50 best jobs in America. IT landed in three of the top 10, with systems engineer in the top spot, IT project manager at No. 5 and computer/network security consultant at No. 8. Other IT jobs on the list: software developer, software product manager, business analyst, telecommunications network engineer, computer software program manager and applications systems analyst.

You can click through from each job title to see a brief explanation of the job, CNNMoney's take on what's great about the job (good pay and promising employment outlook usually factor into it), drawbacks, requirements, pay scale, growth rates and "quality of life" rankings in categories like personal satisfaction and benefit to society. Reader comments are interesting, too.

CNNMoney's list matches up with what Susan found. JobThread CEO Jason Wies told her the top keywords in his site's listings are "engineer," "developer," "senior," "architect" and "manager."

Another key to finding employment is research.  Just checking the job listings is not enough.  Many publications list top companies to work for.  Skills assessments are equally important to determine possible career paths.  For information on salaries being paid by companies, SalaryFor.com

has a huge database of actual salaries that companies are paying for different positions as well as career advice and job listings.  You can post your own salary or view others for free.
