Upcoming Webinars Kick Off Small Business Week

Each year since 1963, the President proclaims a week to be designated as Small Business Week. Next week, May 4 through 8, is that week for 2015. Across the U.S., entrepreneurs, business owners and consumers celebrate the contributions that smaller companies make to our economy.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) helps organize the celebration, as it has for the past 52 years. SBA administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet told Entrepreneur about the importance of this week:

“National Small Business Week is a chance to honor our nation’s 28 million small businesses and renew our commitment to fostering the entrepreneurial spirit that is central to the American experience.”

During the week, the SBA receives nominations for Small Business Person of the Year. After thorough review, the group selects one candidate to exemplify the smaller companies of the U.S. The criteria include “longevity, ability to withstand adversity, growth in employee headcount and contributions to the community.”

The SBA administrator will be traveling the country during Small Business Week and will put on special events to celebrate in Miami, Los Angeles, San Antonio, New York and Washington, D.C.

Also this week, SBA is putting on five webinars on topics important to smaller businesses. Each online seminar is sponsored by a larger corporation and is intended to help small business owners and employees better understand complex or confusing topics. The webinars include:

The five webinars are free. However, interested participants must register for each webinar via the links provided above or on this page that lists further information.
