Five Ways to Use Data to Be More Relevant to Customers

Business intelligence (BI) software has long been used to discern patterns and trends but now TIBCO Software wants to automate much of that process via a version of TIBCO Spotfire that runs in the cloud.

TIBCO today announced the general availability of Recommendations for TIBCO Spotfire Cloud, an implementation of its BI software that is managed by TIBCO in the cloud. Mike Boyarski, director of product marketing for TIBCO, says rather than relying on spreadsheets running on a local PC to sort through complex data, Recommendations for TIBCO Spotfire Cloud enables business users to access a cloud application to not only visualize data, but also make recommendations on how best to visually represent that data.

Boyarski says the goal is to make it simpler for business users to explain the narrative behind the numbers by automating the data visualization process. Business users are presented with a few options to present data, which they can then stitch together to create a presentation.

In general, Boyarski says that TIBCO is now making a conscious decision to roll out innovations in the cloud first because in part it’s easier for TIBCO to centralize the management of the upgrade process. In time, however, TIBCO will make new TIBCO Spotfire features available in the on-premise versions of that software as well.

Of course, the degree to which access to new features ultimately drives users into the cloud remains to be seen. But given the historic adoption rate of BI software on premise, chances are fairly high that adoption rates of BI software in the cloud can only be substantially better.
