Five Ways to Scale Agile for the Enterprise

More than a few organizations want to embrace agile development methodologies but for one reason or another lack the wherewithal to make it happen.

Looking to make it simpler to adopt agile development practices, CollabNet, a provider of application life cycle management (ALM) software, has partnered with Tech Mahindra, a provider of global IT services, to create an instance of CollabNet TeamForge software that runs in the cloud.

CollabNet CEO Bill Portelli says the Agile DevOps Process Transformation (ADOPT) service gives IT organizations access to an ALM platform that is both tool and process agnostic. Instead of forcing IT organizations to work with a specific set of tools or choose a particular development methodology, teams are free to use what they feel gets the job done best.

Portelli also notes that by moving that capability into the cloud, organizations can now take advantage of neutral territory to facilitate application development across multiple organizations. As application development becomes more global, Portelli says that many organizations don’t want to have to manage external development teams on their own servers for a variety of cost and compliance reasons.

ADOPT is designed to make ALM easier to consume by predefining a “catalogue of services” such as idea to task, task to package, and package to deployment.

Companies of all sizes are realizing that their competitive differentiation is tied to the software they build. That means the difference between getting products and services to market in enough time to succeed comes down to how the software development process is managed. In that light, you could say that most organizations today will need to rethink their processes in order to develop software on a global scale.
