How to Monetize Data in Five Steps

A new storage array will offer integrated audit tools, search and analytics, according to a recent Gigaom article.

DataGravity has been in stealth mode until this week, when it announced its DataGravity Discovery storage array. The company was co-founded by Paula Long, who is better known as one of the three co-founders of EqualLogic.

Long tells Gigaom that the goal is to expose data that might otherwise be lost in the black box that is storage. Discovery can index over 400 data types and provide audit and activity information, including who reads and writes which files.

Reading the examples reminds me of cleaning out old school papers: There are several cringe-worthy moments, including the tester who found his own termination letter (it was okay in the end). I think that situation proves it can be useful in digging up data bones.

DataGravity Discovery is built with open source data and will be on display this week at VMWorld 2014.
